Meandering Thoughts

The City Towering Over Me

When a photographer captures an image, that image becomes an intimate look inside their very soul, a peek at the world through their eyes….

I often see a mirror of me, of my thoughts within, when I am sorting through the pictures I take. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that I am not a big fan of the city. Those picture are often dark and dreary, towering over me.

The Beach And Sky As Far As I Can See

Likewise when I photograph places that bring me comfort, I tend to emphasize color, light, and wide open spaces as far as I can see.

Beauty In Nature

Photographing out in nature, I am often focused on the natural beauty of wildlife, adding a gentle feel and softness that we can almost touch.

Perhaps it is more than quacking like a duck that makes people realize it is a duck. (Yeah, that thought came out of nowhere…)

Recently I have begun to notice this same thing with writers, except the look inside of them is created with their words. You can tell the difference when they are writing about something they are passionate about, as opposed to when they write because they feel they need to for business reasons.

If our actions show the world who we are inside, I wonder if we are aware of exactly what it is we are showing people. Is it within our control? Or, something that just happens? Or, perhaps I just overthink things. 😉

Nope, I haven’t reached a conclusion yet. Today was just a day of meandering thoughts. Yup, I have those kind of days often and I am okay with that…

What Goes Around

Surprise Attack

The expression on Lemur’s face, moments before his surprise attack on Taylor, was absolutely priceless. You could literally see him planning how this was all gonna go down. Finally, he would be king of the mountain, or in reality, king of the couch.

I seriously considered stepping in, or at least giving her a warning about what was to come, but in the end, this ongoing battle of wills is between the two of them.

I was laughing a bit too hard to grab a shot of Lemur’s failed launch off the couch and besides, Taylor wasn’t exactly amused at the rude awakening from her nap. Apparently Lemur had forgotten about the rule of what goes around, comes around.

Payback

The line was now clearly drawn in the sand.

Again, no picture of the moment of victory for Taylor, as my laugher had now reached the point of hysterics. (Yeah, I am easily amused.)

What Now?

Her final look of total contempt for him (as she reclaimed her spot on the couch) sent him off in search of more playful prey. Taylor went back to her nap.

Gosh I love my cats…

You’ve Got The Ball

The Ball

So you’ve got the ball, huh?

Whatcha gonna do with it?

Run like heck of course! What possible sense could it make to just stand there holding it? What are you doing? Waiting for someone to take it away from you?

RUN!

Life is always a series of choices.

Yes, we can make the wrong decisions, but don’t ya think that maybe sometimes we miss out on wonderful chances in life because we just stood there holding the dang ball?

If we spend life thinking about what we should do, we never quite start living it.

Scratch That Itch

Itch

Sometimes ya just gotta scratch that itch.

We grew up hearing not to go out in the cold rain, for fear we would get sick.

To heck with it!

Run, play, and love it until you are too exhausted to play another minute. Go ahead! Get drenched! Jump in the puddles and fall in the mud screaming with insane laughter.

They told us not to talk to strangers.

Pffffft, everyone is a stranger until you give them that huge infectious smile and say hello. Start grinning and tell everyone in your path to have a wonderful day!

It doesn’t matter if they think you’re nuts. Of course you are! Do it anyway.

Should we eat fast food every night?

No, we shouldn’t. But life isn’t about iron clad rules. It is about living, loving, and laughing. No, not those politically correct giggles. I mean good old fashioned belly laughs that make it hard to breathe.

So go ahead.

Order that Big Mac that you have no business eating, just keep it all in balance.

Darkness Within

Darkness Within

When I’m ready to make a photograph, I think I quite obviously see in my minds eye something that is not literally there in the true meaning of the word. I’m interested in something which is built up from within, rather than just extracted from without.” Ansel Adams

Even when I don’t mean for it to, what I see in my minds eye, how I am perceiving the world around me in that specific moment, shows up in the images that I take.

The darkness within doesn’t necessarily mean something bad.

Sometimes it is simply time for me to look inside myself for a bit….

It Happens

It Happens

Ain’t no rhyme or reason, no complicated meaning, ain’t no need to over think it, let’s go laughing. Life don’t go quite like you planned it. We try so hard to understand it. Irrefutable, indisputable, the fact is, psssh. It happens…”

I often wonder if Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush (Sugarland) know how many smiles they bring into people’s lives. For me, their music is so real, ya just can’t help but relate. I think maybe folks just like knowing that we are all far more alike than we are different.

My days start out a little different than most folks, mostly because I have a bad habit of sleeping when I am tired, and not sleeping when I am not tired. I can wake up at some pretty funky times so I am better off not trying to actually communicate with someone who has been awake and chirpy for hours if I still don’t have both eyes open yet.

Trying to communicate with me before that second eye is open can be pretty risky, but if I haven’t had my first cup of coffee yet, it can be dang near dangerous.

To put it simply, I wake up in a bit of a fog.

I bump into walls and grumble because I am certain someone must have moved it while I was sleeping. It usually takes me a good 30 minutes to an hour of quiet time to really prepare myself for the day ahead. It’s just who I am, ya know?

99.99% of the time, that isn’t an issue because the only one around to fuss with when I wake up is the cats, and they learned pretty quickly to stay out of Mama’s way if she is growling. (grin) It’s that .01% of the time that gets me into trouble.

It’s those times when both phones are ringing, and I can’t find either of them. If I am foolish enough to actually LOOK for them, I am likely gonna bang my head under the desk (where they probably fell) when I try to retrieve them.

You would think I would be smart enough to just leave the phones ringing, but no. I am gonna answer them and actually try to talk. Yeah, not usually one of my brighter moves. Within minutes, I am sure to have someone upset with me.

Worse yet? I have now forgotten my coffee, and in my lovely mood I decide to check emails and put out fires. Lord help anyone that left a fire for me by that point because I am sure to make it an inferno before I ever get around to putting it out.

Somewhere in the middle of all of this, I remember my coffee, and start thinking it would be a good idea for me step back for a bit. Go make coffee, chill.

Funny how just the smell of it begins to calm me. I love even the process of making it. It’s like art to me most times. Heck I have 3 or 4 different types of coffeemakers, but this time, I have waited too long and I want a cup RIGHT NOW! That’s about the moment I realize I am completely out of cream. Ugggggggggggggggggggggggggggggh!

Now, imagine finally getting ready to work and finding your computer connection is gone when they just got done fixing it very recently.

Whatcha gonna do?

By this time, all ya can do is crank up some Sugarland and laugh hysterically…..

Yeah, it happens…
