Cricket's Thoughts

Focused On One Thing

Close Up Focus Coke Machine

Inside the mind of an ADHD Cricket is usually a mess of complete chaos that no one but me is likely to understand, the non-stop chatter of my thoughts jumping all over the place (and back again) until I can focus.

How in the heck is there over 1000 emails in my inbox again? Good morning kitty cat, yes I see you. Where is my coffee? Dang! Were the spammers breeding over the holidays? Where is that phone ringing? Why on earth am I up this early. I should prolly check to see why that site is running slow. Did I pay the server fees? OUCH! If you bite me again I swear I am gonna pull all your teeth out!

What was I thinking when I ordered SouthernWench.com? No, don’t open Facebook yet, you will never get out of there. Where the HECK did I set my coffee down? Is she not getting my emails? Okay, I really need to sit down, focus and knock out these directory submissions right now. Did I forget to feed you? Ugggggh! Is it naptime yet? Oh yeah, my coffee. Crap! It’s cold…

Actually it’s not that I have trouble focusing, it’s more that my mind wants to focus on way too many things at a time. The results of that are never pretty.

So how do I ever get anything done?

The answer to what works (most of the time) for me often show within the pictures I choose to take. Have you ever noticed that I tend to shoot very close up, so that I am focused on ONE thing right in front of me?

That is exactly what I do when I am working. I remove as many distractions as possible so that the only thing I am seeing right in front of me is exactly what I need to be focused on.

Does it work?

Heck yeah! But like most things in life, it can be too much of a good thing.

The down side of this method (for me) is that I don’t tend to notice the laundry piling up or that I have been working on something so long that the sun is coming up before I have even gone to bed.

It may be time to work on balance, ya think? (grin)

How did you get inside MY head? Great post. Yes, focus definitely helps. And for me, making lists helps. Even if I forget to look at the list, I’ll come across it a day or two later and realize that just writing it all down helped me focus enough and I can cross off several things!

Thank you for starting the challenge by the way. It’s great!

My biggest problem with lists is that I can make them into an all day project if I am not careful. (grin)

Wait, are you saying they aren’t supposed to be an all day project?

Oh Cricket you are amazing. I needed to read this as my daughter has ADHD and I sometimes forget that challenge. Funny thing is the picture of the COKE is what got my attention!

Our brains don’t know how to filter out those things that aren’t important to the task, so everything gets jumbled together. Truth is, I love that I am ADHD and have been my entire life. Yes, it is definitely challenging, but it can also benefit so many things. πŸ™‚

I think since working for myself I have developed AD. So many ideas, so much to do, so little time in a day.

Like… reading this post when I should be creating 2 blog posts for the 30 Day Challenge. (wink)

Web people are famous for having way too many project ideas in their mind!

    Cricket,

I could so relate to what you were writing! It made me laugh as often that is my head. That’s where that delicious book about Distraction comes in, it’s great!

Focus… wow I started this comment at noon… it’s 3:30 now…. what’s focus? Yup we all jump around on projects and thoughts…. I just wish I could auto capture what I’m thinking in a ticker tape or a list for later! Closest thing I can think of is a voice recorder but then I’d go around talking to myself and look completely insane (vs only a little right now)!

You are sooo not alone on flitting from project to thought to project and .. ummm where was I? Oh! focus on a project to the point of loosing track of time!

I so totally relate to this! Coffee… did you say coffee…. oh yeah that’s to my left .. wonder if there’s any left……..wanders away to go taste the coffee……

If you had any idea how many times a day I lose my coffee you would die laughing!

Note to self: Invent a way for people to keep up with their coffee and make millions!

You’d be amused at how often I’m seen doing multiple about faces in the halls to remember to go back for my mug or the laughter at meetings with I come in with not one but two mugs of coffee or an entire press of fresh coffee, sugar and half & half…. I make sure I stay awake at meetings that way! I’m waiting for my boss to take my press away one of these days after I’ve had too much coffee…. either that or drink it all herself! I have her hooked on my coffee!

Seriously, I’m hooked on coffee…. I’ll have to share my story as to why here https://www.coffee-institute.com πŸ˜€

I wonder if I have adhd because I get so involved in something my alarm is going off when I should have been asleep for the last 8 hours. I’ve been called “Captain Random” before because my train jumps from track to track sometimes. WONDERFUL post Cricket. If I ever make it down to SA to take photographs maybe I could stop in and help ya with yer laundry? LOL.

To heck with the laundry, we need to shoot the rodeo coming up next month!

You are not the only one obsessing over what to write and how while at work and quickly switching windows to hide the goofing off (I love alt-tab)… good thing I am normally very productive and this is a quiet month… so far!

Girl – I’ve had a hard time focusing this week too. I can’t WAIT for your rodeo pics this year. I bet there’s a memo out to all those cowboys about you and that camera. ; )
