Past The City Limit Sign

[blockquote cite=”Brooks & Dunn (Boot Scootin’ Boogie)”]Out in the country past the city limit sign, well there’s a honky tonk near the county line. The joint starts jumpin’ every night when the sun goes down.”[/blockquote]

When you begin exploring county roads you never quite know what to expect around the next curve. Sometimes you are pleasantly surprised and can’t figure out why you never checked out that road before.

I bet I have driven past FM 2252 a few hundred times over the years. Never in a million years was I expecting the incredible little town of Bracken, Texas just a few miles past the city limit signs of San Antonio. I felt as if I had stepped into the old west and kept finding myself looking for outlaws.

As I pulled up to the Hangin’ Tree Saloon I was grinning ear to ear.

Yeah, I will be back to explore here again soon…

An Old Dirt Road

An Old Dirt Road

[blockquote cite=”Paul Harvey”]Most paved roads lead to trouble, Dirt Roads more likely lead to a fishing creek or a swimming hole.” [/blockquote]

When I take off on country backroads it’s rare for me to know where I am going. I just go. I reckon I will know when I get there and usually I do.

Sometimes the music is cranked up loud and sometimes it’s quiet all around me – mostly because the old truck radio is seriously haunted and works when it feels like it or when I hit enough bumps in the road. Strangely enough, I’m okay with that.

I used to pass by really cool looking roads and kick myself later for not stopping to check things out. Somewhere along the line I blinked and realized I had passed by far too many things in my life and I began driving slower and stopping often.

Yeah, I am that little old lady driving 20 mph down the road that makes you insane. In my defense, I only do it out in the country and I do pull over (to let folks go) when I see someone behind me.

Something happens when I see a curvy little dirt road. I have this overwhelming need to see where it leads. If it is muddy and filled with massive ruts, it doesn’t take me long to figure out that something really cool is nearby and I am about to find out…

This particular day I was far enough out of town to realize this was not somewhere I wanted to get stuck so I parked and walked in. It could be I was just going to find a dry creek bed and a local dumping ground but at least I would know.

And then I saw it.

A little bit of heaven decided to make an appearance in my day.

I discovered a hidden section of Cibolo Creek.

I guess this was my destination today. 🙂

An Amazing Journey

An Amazing Journey

[blockquote cite=”Bob Moawad”]The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own. No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on, or blame. The gift is yours – it is an amazing journey – and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.” [/blockquote]

Sometimes a simple quote expresses my thoughts better than I ever could…

Towards My Dreams

You know how sometimes you get stuck in a bit of a rut and find yourself just going through the motions – putting one foot in front of the other?

I knew I needed to get a picture for the 365 Project Photography challenge but for the life of me I couldn’t seem to find a single shot that made me want to bother with even the effort of clicking the shutter.

I stood there staring at the parts inside the electric meters going around and around. No emotions or thoughts it just keeps on turning 24/7 regardless of what is going on around it. Yeah, a full-fledged power outage would stop it, but not much else.

“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

I don’t want to be like that meter.

I want to live.

I want to feel.

When you follow your dreams, you create a new world for yourself and bring others along for the ride. Your destiny awaits you; skip towards it.” Jayme Barrett

I want to skip towards my dreams…

Make My Own Coffee

Inner Voice: Ummmmm… what are you doing?

Me: Nuffin

Inner Voice: You are supposed to be writing.

Me: I don’t have nuffin to say.

Inner Voice: You used that excuse yesterday.

Me: Yeah, well, I am using it again.

Inner Voice: It’s not going to work 2 days in a row.

Me: Seriously, why don’t you go bug someone else for a while?

Inner Voice: It’s my job to bug you.

Me: How about if I just distract them with a pretty picture?

Inner Voice: Sighs…

Me: Sighs…

Inner Voice: Fine. Go with the pretty picture then.

Me: Do you think they will fall for it?

Inner Voice: Nope.

Me: You don’t happen to make coffee, do you?

Inner Voice: They are going to think you are crazy if you keep talking to me.

Me: Fine, I will make my own coffee….

Absolutely Nothing To Say

Every now and then I have absolutely nothing to say.

Yeah, I realize that is difficult to believe considering the fact that I run a community forum, write for multiple blogs and am very active in social media, but it does happen.

Sometimes I just kind of get lost in a world of my own.

This has been one of those days…
